A 60-year-old Austrian woman gives rare birth to twins
A 60-year-old Austrian woman has given birth to twins, in just the second case in Austria since 1970 of a woman 60 or older giving birth. A woman has given birth to twins following in-vitro fertilization treatment – a rarity due to her age, according to a report.
The new mom beat the odds, welcoming her babies in a clinic in Wels-Grieskirchen, Upper Austria. She had used an egg donor from outside Austria as part of the in-vitro process, the head of the clinic Klaus Reisenberger said.
“It was "an interesting question if it makes medical sense" to allow older women have in-vitro fertilization treatment” - Reisenberger said. He also said that, in this case, the pregnancy had gone well, adding that if someone had "not donated the eggs, these children would not be in the world now."
