Elton John to boycott Dolce & Gabbana after their remarks on IVF
There’s a firestorm brewing between pop icon Elton John and Italian fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Dolce and Gabbana, who were a couple for a time, recently made some rather controversial remarks in the Italian magazine Panorama regarding in-vitro fertilization and what exactly constitutes a family. “I am not convinced by those I call children of chemicals, synthetic children,” Dolce told the magazine. “Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalogue…psychiatrists are not ready to confront the effects of this experimentation.”
“The family is not a fad,” added Gabbana. “In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging.”
John has two sons, Zachary and Elijah, who were conceived via IVF, with husband David Furnish. The celebrated musician fired back on Instagram, condemning the fashion designers for referring to his children as “synthetic” and for their “archaic thinking.” John also vowed never to wear their creations again and concluded his post with the hashtag #BoycottDolceGabbana.
