Parents Of Quintuplets – Born Over A Span Of Six Years

26.07.2012

A British couple, who thought that they would never have children, are now parents of quintuplets – born over a span of six years.

J. and A. F. conceived all the five babies at the same time using IVF.

Eldest M., now 6-years-old, was born in 2006 but the rest of the embryos had been frozen.

4-year-old A., arrived two years later, followed by M., two, and now the twins L. and I., just two weeks old, have completed the family quintet.

IVF pioneer Prof C. K., a consultant gynaecologist at L. W. Hospital, said that it was an exceptionally rare event for a woman to have so many of her embryos frozen and for them to turn into so many healthy babies.

“I’ve never seen it before in 20 years. We have moved on because of the development of cutting-edge technology,” K. said.

J. and 43-year-old transport manager A. of West Derby, Liverpool had got married 18 years ago and had tried for a baby for eight years before their first unsuccessful IVF attempt in 2001.

Bid no 2 had ended in stillbirth, but J. conceived on her fourth try in 2005 and M. was the result.

In all 18 of her eggs had been fertilized and doctors at L. W. Hospital had frozen the remaining embryos.

The couple said that their family is now complete and sent a message to others going through the rollercoaster of IVF.

“We felt it wasn’t going to happen for us but we never gave up hope of a family one day,” J. said.

K. said that this was a wonderfully happy outcome and that they were all delighted for J. and her husband.
