Ukrainian Law on Surrogacy Will Not Be Amended
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has returned with suggestions the Law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine regarding restrictions on the use of assisted reproductive technologies" for the re-examination of the Verkhovna Rada.
As reported on the website of the President of Ukraine on Friday, the law proposed by Parliament does not specify the list of circumstances under which a woman is contraindicated the use of such technologies, and the earliest age when women may use assisted reproductive technologies, while article 48 of the Basic Principles of Legislation on Health has identified woman's age for the application of artificial insemination and embryo transfer.
Also the proposed law does not define such terms as "surrogate mother," "child’s genetic link to a surrogate mother", "substitution surrogacy", "assisted reproductive technologies."
There is a number of other inconsistencies of the proposed law with the active legislation on the subject. Given these circumstances, Yanukovych has rejected the law.
