Scientists Look Into the Link Between Stress and Breast Cancer
A study analyses what’s known of the link between stress and breast cancer.
It’s long been believed that stress may be linked to some forms of cancer, including breast cancer. But research studies have produced conflicting results. It’s important to try to clarify whether there’s a link because if there is, then maybe stress management would be a good way of reducing breast cancer risk.
Researchers at Maastricht University in The Netherlands have analyzed several different studies which look into the link between stressful life events and the risk of breast cancer. This revealed that in the death of a spouse, relative or friend seems to have some modest influence on breast cancer risk. The researchers are not sure why this might be. They argue that maybe stress hormones interfere with the workings of the immune system. And this, in turn, may well predispose towards tumor growth.
