Caffeine slows the development of the fetal brain

12.08.2013

Researchers from Portugal and France have found that caffeine slows the development of the  fetal brain.

Scientists from the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and the University of Provence (France) conducted a series of experiments on rodents. It was found that mice, whose mothers consumed
caffeine during pregnancy, had 41% less gamma-aminobutyric acid neurons compared with the norm.

Пamma-aminobutyric acid neurons control the activity of a number of brain cells, and reduced concentrations can cause diseases of the nervous system - for example, epilepsy.
