Excess weight and pregnancy
15.08.2013
Excess weight during pregnancy is harmful not only for the mother but also can have negative consequences for the health of the unborn child.
Scientists from Scotland analyzed health data of more than 37,000 people whose mothers had their body mass index recorded at the first visit to the clinic during pregnancy. The study also took into account the mother's age, number of previous pregnancies, delivery date and sex of the child. It was found that 21% of mothers were overweight and 4% were obese.
The risk of hospitalization due to cardiovascular disease for people whose mothers were overweight during pregnancy was higher by 42% compared to the norm.
