Scientists have deciphered the mechanism of a particular gene that affects the sex of the fetus in the process of its formation.
As you know, for the male sex of the child take "responsibility" Y-chromosome and gene Sry. This gene activates the activity of the required set of "male" genes.
In laboratory experiments, the researchers from the University of Queensland and a team from Japan have found that for activation of the gene Sry is responsible enzyme Jmjd1a. And if to "disconnect", gene encoding the enzyme Jmjd1a,the developing embryos are female.
The study authors suggest that this finding will help explain a number of conditions associated with intersexual deviations.
