In Spain, will legalize the rights of children from surrogate mothers
Minister of Justice of Spain said that the registration of births from surrogate mothers will be legitimized, in accordance with the doctrine of the European Court of Human Rights. He also stressed that these amendments will oblige the medical centers to inform about the births and deaths to branches of the Civil Registry.
This measure will prevent the official circumlocution associated with the transfer of cases from one court to another, and will result in annual savings of citizens of about 64 million euros.
Minister of Justice recalled that the reform strengthens medical and biometric measures to confirm the relationship through the maternal line and stops so-called "practice of withdrawal of the Innocents" (when the newborns in hospitals declared dead, but in fact alive and healthy illegally transferred to childless couples).
Now the Civil Registry will register the birth of children from surrogate mothers. Socialist deputy Mario Bedera highlighted the fact that the Strasbourg Court upheld the right of kinship for these children. He and the deputy from SiU Jordi Janet noted that the distinction between "legitimate" and "illegitimate" birth are unsightly relic of the past.
