New IVF technique better protects against side effects

22.07.2014

Using a new IVF technique already were born first children conceived by this method. This technique will prevent dangerous complications of the mother's health. The usual procedure involves injecting women stimulating hormone - human chorionic gonadotropin. However, this hubbub provokes ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, reports The Telegraph.

The ovaries are rapidly increasing in size, exceeding the norm in a few times. This applies to about one third of patients. As a result, there is vomiting, nausea. In 5% of cases develop kidney failure. However, Imperial College London, revealed: kisspeptin hormone also stimulates the ovary, but without the side effects.

Testing of the new approach began in January last year. And for today were born 12 children. According to the mothers of the children, IVF cycle, conducted using a new hormone, passed more easily. In total, this method was tested on 53 volunteers. It has been proven: kisspeptin stimulated the release of other reproductive hormones. Unlike gonadotropin, which remains in the blood for a long time after injection kisspeptin was digested faster. Thus, the risk of hyperstimulation syndrome decreased.

In the experiment, women received a single injection of kisspeptin in order to induce ovulation. Healthy eggs formed in 51 of 53 women. 49 women transplanted into the uterus 1-2 fertilized embryo. And 12 women became pregnant. In the near future the scientists plan to conduct a second test of the hormone, but on women with polycystic ovaries.
