Pregnant women are advised to stay away from plastic

Phthalates contained in plastics, are able to penetrate into bloodstream of the fetus, which in future may trigger development of asthma in children. Experts warn that should be afraid of butyl benzyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate, that are used to make plastic more soft and flexible.

As experts explained, phthalates are contained in vinyl products, plastic food containers, insect repellents, bathroom curtains and even in cars. Since 2009, they were banned for use in manufacture of children's toys and cosmetics. To define how the rest things affect children, they decided to check with participation of 300 pregnant women. Specialists determined concentration of phthalates in woman body and unborn child by a urine test.

It was found that a high level of phthalates increased risk of child asthma to 72-78%. Most often, asthma made ​​itself felt at the age of 5-11 years. Phthalates also increased risk of eczema and skin rashes. In its turn di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate and diethyl phthalate had no effect on morbidity statistics.
